Chunky Granny Square Tutorial | Sunburst | Chenille Yarn | Hand Crochet | Video + PDF

If you're wanting to make a blanket, pillow, rug, or anything else from these granny squares, yay! I hope you feel inspired by this pattern and your creativity runs wild. I simply ask that you credit me (Stay Cozy Creative Co. / Jessica) as the original creator and direct others to purchase this tutorial if they are interested in making their own. Thank you!

*This tutorial is specifically made to be used with chenille yarn. If you are looking for the tube yarn granny square, you can find it here.

Love a good granny square but prefer the ease and speed of hand crochet? This project is perfect for you! No hook needed.

I created this video tutorial after making my own chunky granny square and falling in love with the process and final product. In this video, I visually walk you through the process of hand crocheting, as well as verbally talk through the process, so you can make your very own chunky granny square.

Estimated size of finished granny square = 20" x 20" (size may vary depending on creator and yarn used)

Included in this purchase:

- Digital download of video tutorial

- Digital download of PDF of written supplemental instructions

What you’ll need for 1 granny square (not included in this purchase):

  • 6 skeins of chenille yarn (jumbo, 1" in diameter size): 1 skein for the center color, 1 skein for the second color, 2 skeins for the third color, and 2 skeins for the border*
  • Scissors

*If you plan to make a 6 square blanket, you'll need about 20 skeins, and if you plan to make a 9 square blanket, you'll need about 30 skeins.

Not sure how to connect your granny squares? Below are links to two videos showing two different techniques:

How to connect your squares with a hidden, flat lay

How to connect your squares with a slip stitch
